By Target Concern > Hyperpigmentation Heroes > Ingredient Spotlight: Retinoids

Vitamin A helps to  stimulate production of new skin cells. It is a heavy duty fighter against hyperpigmentation, acne, and signs of aging.

Retinoids include any derivative of Vitamin A, including retinoic acid, retinol, retinal, retinol palmitate, and retinol propionate. Retinoic acids are the active form and the strongest derivative of Vitamin A which is why they often come in prescription strengths (such as tretinoin or tazarotene). For Rx options, consult your doctor. Retinol is a gentler derivative and is available over-the-counter. It requires conversion into the active form, retinoic acid, to have its full intended effect.
